The surface of the bag is matte black. The black is on the deep side, and it is a plain black. The matte surface does not reflect, and a lamp leaves no bright spot on it. The colour printed on it sits on the black ground, and the colour stands out. Gold and silver stamping also read bright on the black ground. The paper is thick black card.

The handle is two thick braided cotton ropes. The rope is braided, and there is a strand pattern on the surface. There is one on each side of the bag mouth. The two ends of the rope pass through holes in the bag mouth, and a knot is tied inside the bag mouth. The knot sits under the hole, so the rope does not pull back. The rope is black, and it is the same colour as the bag body. The rope is thicker than a common cord, so the part in your hand is one round thick rope. A short end of the rope is left outside the knot. The handle is made at a hand-carry length.

The bag mouth is folded in once, and the fold is glued. There is a glued seam on each side. When the bag is filled the two sides do not open out. The bottom is folded in, and the four corners are folded into triangles. The bag ships folded flat, pressed into one flat piece. When you open it the bottom spreads out.

Every bag is checked in our factory before it leaves. The paper surface is looked at first, and black card with a scratch or a press mark is taken out. Then the bag mouth and the side seams are looked at, and the seams have to be glued straight. The bottom is turned over, and the four corners are checked. The handle is pulled once, and the knot and the hole are both looked at. The printed words and pictures are checked against the artwork, and how light or deep the colour is. A second order follows the same size and the same layout, so the second batch matches the first batch.
