Sizes for a Whole Product Range

One bag shape covers a range of sizes, so a boutique can order a small bag for jewellery and a large one for a home fragrance set from the same place. Sizes run in one line from the smallest bag that holds a boxed necklace to the largest that takes a folded coat or a candle gift set. Because every size uses the same card and the same webbing, a shop can put a small bag beside a large one on the counter and they read as one set.

The Front Is Left for the Brand

The front panel is left blank, so the bag carries the brand rather than a pattern. Print can go on the front, on the back and on the two side gussets, and a small mark can sit at the top corner where it is seen first on a shelf. Artwork is sized to the bag that is ordered, so a logo sits in the same place on the small bag and on the large one. A single colour, a full-colour print or a logo on its own are all set per order.

The Paper the Print Sits On

The card is smooth and fine-grained, so an edge of type stays sharp and a solid block of colour stays even across the panel. It does not fuzz at the folds, which is what usually spoils the look of a white bag after it has been opened and closed a few times. A smooth surface also carries a matte finish evenly, so the bag a customer receives looks like the bag that was approved.

What Keeps It in Use

- The card does not fuzz at the folds, so the bag still reads as white after it has been opened and closed on the counter.
- The handle ends are glued and pressed into the bag, so the strap sits in the card instead of hanging on two punched holes.
- The bag keeps its shape when it is empty, so it stands on a shelf between customers instead of collapsing into a flat sheet.
- The print sits in the card rather than on top of it, so it does not rub off against a hand or a coat.
- A bag that keeps its shape is the one a customer keeps at home for storage, which puts the brand back on a shelf.
- A shop can run the same bag for a second season, because the size, the strap and the print do not change between runs.

How a Shop Sets Them Out

- On a counter, three sizes stand side by side and read as one family rather than three different bags.
- At the till, the bag is handed over already open, so a customer can put a purchase in without asking for a bigger one.
- For an opening day or a market stall, the same bag carries a gift set, a brochure and a small purchase without a second bag.
- Because the front carries the brand and nothing else, the bags can be set out as part of the display instead of staying under the counter.
- Leave the bags on a shelf with the handle up and the front facing out, and customers pick the size they need themselves.

What Our Factory Makes to Order

We make paper bags, pillow boxes, folding boxes and rigid gift boxes, and the sizes, the card, the webbing and the print are set to each order rather than to a fixed list. Artwork is sized to the bag before the plates are made, so a logo lands in the same place on every size in the run. Carton, art card and kraft are all used for these bags, with webbing, ribbon, rope or leather handles, and a printed logo, a stamped line or a plain surface. A sample bag with the handle glued in place is prepared in our factory first, so the card, the strap and the print are seen together before the order starts. Orders are packed by size and by design, so a shop that takes three sizes does not have to sort them on arrival. Repeat orders keep the same artwork and the same handle, so a bag reordered a year later matches the one on the counter.
