The brand name on the front is hot-stamped gold, not printed ink. Straight on, the letters are a pale gold and do not glare; turn the bag and the light sweeps across, and the letters light up. The edges of the letters stay crisp, and Chinese characters with many strokes keep every stroke, with nothing blurred together. This paper has a grain, so the foil pressure has to be set right for the letters to stay unbroken and clean-edged — that is something we get right at the sample stage. A row of them on a shelf — from a few steps away, those two or three gold characters are the first thing you see.

The paper has a lychee grain; your fingers feel fine bumps instead of a smooth, slick sheet. Lights do not bounce off it, so it never glares white; from a distance it reads as a clean white, and the grain shows up when you step closer. So this bag does not look as flat as a plain white paper bag — it looks and feels thicker, and more like leather.

The handle is a silver-grey satin ribbon with a soft sheen of its own, and against the white bag it looks clean:

-The ribbon is made wide, so carrying it does not cut into your hand or dig into your palm.

-The ribbon is threaded through holes punched in the bag top, and those holes are reinforced, so it will not tear open at the hole edge with use.

-Load something with weight, and the handle does not work loose.

The base is folded in triangles; open it out and you get a square floor, so the bag has depth and stands in three dimensions. On a counter it stands up instead of slumping the way a soft bag does. Put in a jewellery box or a skincare set — something with weight — and the bag does not sag, and the base does not bulge open.
