The lid is joined to the base along one long edge, so the box opens from the side the way a hardcover book opens. You never have to hold a separate lid, and the lid cannot go missing on a shop shelf. The board is stiff speciality paper, so the box does not flex in your hand. On the surface there is a lotus motif in blind emboss — the pattern is raised, colourless and the same tone as the box, which keeps the whole thing quiet, the way incense wants it.

Inside there is a high-density foam insert with a long channel cut into it. The bundle of sticks lies in that channel and hardly moves, so the box can travel in a courier parcel without the tips snapping. The foam sits level with the base, so nothing rattles when the box is picked up.

The box is built for a 30g bundle, so the length and the depth follow that spec instead of “close enough”. It works as the retail box for a standard 30g pack, and it works as the trial box you hand over when a customer wants to test the scent first.

The body comes in four colours: deep green, warm brown, dark blue and burgundy. A simple way to arrange them — sandalwood with the deep green and the brown, agarwood with the dark blue and the burgundy, or set them up to your own scent line. The flower motif is the same on all four, in a calm Chinese style that suits incense work.
