About this product

Product information from the supplier.

Product Overview

Ethyl Alcohol – commonly called Ethanol – belongs to the alcohol family of organic compounds. Unlike the aldehydes or acids discussed elsewhere, it serves primarily as a solvent and fuel rather than a reactant for resin formation. Its hydroxyl group (-OH) makes it miscible with both water and many organic solvents – a versatility that few other chemicals possess.

The product serves four main functions: solvent (pharmaceutical tinctures, cosmetic formulations, and industrial extractions), disinfectant (hand sanitizers and surface wipes), fuel (gasoline additive and biofuel), and beverage alcohol (potable spirits – food grade only). What sets Ethanol apart from other solvents is its combination of low toxicity (for food/pharma grades), rapid evaporation, and miscibility with water.

Typical specifications: 95% (rectified spirit), 96% (standard industrial grade), and 99.9% (anhydrous/absolute alcohol). Denatured alcohol available for fuel and industrial use where tax-free formulation is required.

Grades Available: Industrial | Food | Pharmaceutical | Denatured

Why Choose Our Ethyl Alcohol

Versatile Solvent Properties – Dissolves both polar and non-polar compounds. Miscible with water. Evaporates quickly without leaving residue – ideal for cleaning and coating applications.

Multiple Concentrations – 95% for general industrial use. 96% for pharmaceutical tinctures and extractions. 99.9% anhydrous for moisture-sensitive reactions and electronics cleaning.

Grade Options for Different End-Uses – Industrial grade for solvent and fuel applications. Food grade for beverage and flavor extraction. Pharmaceutical grade for hand sanitizers and tinctures. Denatured for tax-free fuel and industrial use.

Flexible Packaging – Supplied in 2.5L, 5L, 20L, 30L jerrycans, 200L drums, and 1000L IBC. Bulk tanker loads available. All shipments comply with IMDG Code with proper flammable liquid labeling.

Export Track Record – 13 years in hazardous chemical exports. Full documentation ensures smooth customs clearance.

Solutions We Provide

Pharmaceutical & Cosmetic Solvent – Tinctures extract active compounds from botanicals using ethanol as the solvent. Cough syrups and liquid medications use it as a carrier. Perfumes, colognes, and aftershaves rely on it for fragrance solubility and rapid evaporation. Our pharmaceutical grade meets purity standards for topical and oral formulations.

Hand Sanitizer & Disinfectant – The WHO recommends 80% ethanol for effective hand sanitizers. It denatures viral proteins and disrupts microbial cell membranes. Our 96% grade can be diluted to the optimal concentration – or used directly for surface disinfection in healthcare and food processing settings.

Industrial Coatings & Printing Inks – Ethanol serves as a fast-evaporating solvent in flexographic and gravure printing inks. It also features in wood stains, shellac, and certain spray coatings. The rapid drying speed allows high-speed printing and coating lines to operate efficiently.

Fuel Additive & Biofuel – Gasoline blended with ethanol (E10, E15, E85) burns more cleanly than pure gasoline. Ethanol raises octane and reduces carbon monoxide emissions. Denatured alcohol is used for this application – tax-free and unsuitable for human consumption.

Food Flavor Extraction – Vanilla extract, almond extract, and citrus flavors are produced by macerating botanicals in food-grade ethanol. The alcohol dissolves flavor compounds, which remain after the solvent evaporates during baking. Our food grade meets beverage alcohol purity standards.

Laboratory Reagent – Research labs use ethanol as a solvent for recrystallization, as a fixative for cell smears, and as a disinfectant for work surfaces. Dehydrated alcohol (99.9%) is specified for moisture-sensitive reactions.

Related Products & Important Notice

Methanol (CH₃OH) – Another alcohol solvent, sometimes co-purchased for different evaporation rate requirements

Isopropyl Alcohol (C₃H₈O) – Alternative disinfectant alcohol, often compared or alternated with ethanol in cleaning applications

Denaturants (various) – Customers purchasing denatured alcohol may also need specific denaturants for customized formulations

Note: Ethanol is highly flammable. Unlike acids or oxidizers, it presents a fire hazard rather than a corrosive or toxic hazard.

Important – Highly Flammable – Static Hazard

Ethanol produces flammable vapors that can ignite from static discharge or open flames. Under IMDG regulations, segregate from oxidizers and ignition sources. Ground containers during transfer. Store in cool, well-ventilated areas away from heat. Contact us to plan your shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question

Answer

What concentrations do you supply?

95%, 96%, and 99.9% (anhydrous).

What is the difference between industrial, food, and pharmaceutical grades?

Purity and denaturing – food/pharma grades are potable; industrial/denatured are not.

Do you supply undenatured (potable) ethanol?

Yes – food grade and pharmaceutical grade are undenatured.

How is it used in hand sanitizer?

80% ethanol concentration is recommended for effective disinfection.

How is it packaged?

2.5L–30L jerrycans, 200L drums, 1000L IBC, bulk tankers. IMDG compliant.

Do you offer samples?

Yes – sample orders available.

Lead time?

15–20 days after order confirmation.
