About this product

Product information from the supplier.

Product Overview

Liquid Ammonia – also called Anhydrous Ammonia – is a compressed liquefied gas that contains no water. Unlike aqueous ammonia solutions which dilute the active ingredient, this anhydrous form delivers pure NH₃ for reactions requiring maximum concentration. It ranks among the most-produced industrial chemicals worldwide.

The product serves three primary sectors: fertilizer manufacturing (urea, ammonium nitrate, and ammonium phosphate production), industrial refrigeration (large-scale cold storage and food processing facilities), and emission control (SNCR and SCR systems for NOx reduction in power plants). What distinguishes Liquid Ammonia from its aqueous counterpart is the absence of water – critical for reactions where moisture interferes or where high NH₃ concentration is required.

Typical specification: 99.5% minimum purity. Oil content and moisture tightly controlled for refrigeration applications.

Grades Available: Industrial | Refrigeration

Why Choose Our Liquid Ammonia

High Purity, Anhydrous – Zero water content. Maximum NH₃ concentration for fertilizer synthesis and chemical reactions where moisture cannot be tolerated.

Specialized Storage & Handling – Supplied in pressure-rated containers: 400L to 1000L cylinders, 15-ton to 25-ton tankers, and ISO tank containers. All shipments comply with IMDG Code with proper toxic and flammable gas labeling.

Two Grades for Different End-Uses – Industrial grade for fertilizer and chemical manufacturing. Refrigeration grade with tighter oil and moisture specifications for cooling systems.

Export Track Record – 13 years in hazardous chemical exports. Full documentation ensures smooth customs clearance.

Solutions We Provide

Fertilizer Manufacturing (Urea & Ammonium Salts) – The nitrogen fertilizer industry consumes the majority of Liquid Ammonia. It reacts with carbon dioxide to form urea – the most widely used nitrogen fertilizer. It also neutralizes acids to produce ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulfate, and ammonium phosphate. Our industrial grade delivers consistent NH₃ content for predictable fertilizer quality and yield.

Industrial Refrigeration (Cold Storage & Food Processing) – Large-scale refrigeration systems for cold storage warehouses, ice rinks, and food processing plants rely on anhydrous ammonia as a refrigerant. It has excellent thermodynamic properties and zero ozone depletion potential. Our refrigeration grade features tight specifications on oil and moisture – contaminants that reduce system efficiency and damage compressors.

Power Plant Denitrification (SNCR/SCR) – Coal-fired power plants inject Liquid Ammonia into flue gas to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. In SNCR systems, it reacts with NOx at high temperatures. In SCR systems, it passes over a catalyst bed for more efficient reduction. Our industrial grade provides consistent purity for reliable NOx removal efficiency.

Chemical Intermediate Manufacturing – Liquid Ammonia serves as a starting material for producing caprolactam (nylon precursor), acrylonitrile (acrylic fibers), and various amines. It also produces hydrazine and hydrogen cyanide. The anhydrous form is specified where water would interfere with downstream reactions.

Metallurgical Applications – In metal processing, Liquid Ammonia is used for nitriding steel surfaces – a heat treatment that hardens the surface while maintaining core ductility. It also serves as a reducing atmosphere in certain furnaces.

Related Products & Important Notice

Urea (CH₄N₂O) – Direct downstream product; fertilizer manufacturers purchase both liquid ammonia and urea

Ammonium Nitrate (NH₄NO₃) – Another downstream product; customers producing multiple nitrogen fertilizers need both

Ammonium Hydroxide (NH₃·H₂O) – Aqueous form; customers needing both anhydrous and solution forms may purchase either

Note: Liquid Ammonia is chemically distinct from acids. It is a base that reacts violently with acids. Never mix.

Important – Toxic Gas – Pressure Hazard

Liquid Ammonia is toxic, corrosive, and flammable. Releases toxic gas that causes severe respiratory damage. Store in pressure-rated containers away from heat. Under IMDG regulations, segregate from acids, halogens, and oxidizers. Use only trained personnel for handling. Contact us to plan your shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question

Answer

What is the difference between liquid ammonia and ammonium hydroxide?

Liquid ammonia is anhydrous (no water). Ammonium hydroxide is ammonia dissolved in water.

How is it used in fertilizer production?

Reacts with CO₂ to make urea. Neutralizes acids to make ammonium salts.

Why is refrigeration grade different?

Tighter oil and moisture specs – contaminants damage compressor systems.

How is it packaged for export?

400-1000L cylinders, 15-25 ton tankers, ISO tanks. IMDG compliant.

Do you offer samples?

Sample orders are not practical for compressed gases – contact us to discuss.

Lead time?

20-30 days after order confirmation, depending on container availability.

Packaging & Transport

Pressure-rated containers. UN-certified toxic and flammable gas labels. Segregated from acids, halogens, and oxidizers. Full IMDG compliance.
