About this product

Product information from the supplier.

Product Overview

Formic Acid (HCOOH) is the simplest carboxylic acid, valued for its high acidity combined with low molecular weight and natural biodegradability. Unlike mineral acids, it is a weak organic acid that offers mild yet effective reducing properties. It serves as a versatile agent in leather processing, animal feed preservation, rubber manufacturing, and textile dyeing.

Key applications include:

Leather tanning – neutralizes lime and acts as a masking agent in chrome tanning

Silage preservation – lowers pH to inhibit spoilage bacteria in stored animal feed

Rubber coagulation – solidifies latex into natural rubber sheets

Textile dyeing – serves as an acid donor for fixing basic dyes

Industrial cleaning – removes hard water scale and rust deposits

De-icing and anti-icing – an eco-friendlier alternative to chloride-based deicers at airports

Our Formic Acid is produced under strict quality control, ensuring consistent concentration, low impurities, and batch-to-batch stability.

Why Choose Our Formic Acid

Biodegradable & Eco-Friendly – Unlike persistent mineral acids, formic acid naturally decomposes in the environment, making it preferred for agricultural and food-contact applications.

Multiple Concentrations Available – Available in 85%, 90%, and 94% strengths to match your specific process requirements.

Mild Yet Effective Acidity – Provides strong acid activity without the aggressive corrosiveness of hydrochloric or sulfuric acid, making it safer for organic materials and biological applications.

Flexible & Safe Packaging – Available in 2.5L, 5L, 20L, 30L jerrycans, 200L drums, and 1000L IBC. All shipments comply with IMDG Code, with secure container loading and proper hazardous labeling.

Export Experience – Our team has 13 years of experience in hazardous chemical exports. We have supplied major enterprises including CSCEC and CNPC, ensuring smooth documentation, customs clearance, and on-time delivery.

Hazardous Goods Expertise – We specialize in safe handling, proper segregation, and compliant transport of corrosive organic acids.

Solutions We Provide

Leather Tanning

In leather processing, formic acid is used for neutralizing lime after the unhairing process (deliming) and as a masking agent in chrome tanning. It improves chromium uptake and gives leather a softer, fuller feel. Consistent acid strength ensures uniform hide preparation and better final leather quality.

Silage Preservation

For livestock farmers, formic acid is an effective silage additive. When added to chopped forage, it rapidly lowers pH, suppressing the growth of Clostridia and other spoilage bacteria. The result is higher protein retention, better palatability, and reduced dry matter loss. Our feed-grade formic acid is suitable for this application.

Rubber Coagulation

In natural rubber production, formic acid is the preferred coagulant for latex. It solidifies rubber particles evenly, producing clean, consistent rubber sheets without the impurities associated with stronger acids. This is critical for high-grade rubber used in tires and technical goods.

Textile Dyeing

In textile processing, formic acid serves as an acid donor for dyeing with basic (cationic) dyes, particularly on acrylic fibers. It provides stable pH control throughout the dye cycle, ensuring level dyeing and good color yield.

Industrial Cleaning & Descaling

Formic acid effectively removes hard water scale (calcium carbonate), rust (iron oxide), and other mineral deposits. Its lower corrosivity to base metals compared to stronger mineral acids makes it suitable for cleaning heat exchangers, boilers, and industrial equipment.

Aviation De-Icing

At airports, formic acid is used in eco-friendlier de-icing and anti-icing fluids for runways. Unlike chloride-based deicers, it does not corrode aircraft aluminum or damage concrete, and its biodegradable nature reduces environmental impact.

Related Products & Important Notice

Acetic Acid (CH₃COOH) – For textile dyeing, food preservation, and chemical synthesis

Oxalic Acid (H₂C₂O₄) – For bleaching and rust removal

Sodium Formate (HCOONa) – A direct derivative, commonly used in leather tanning and construction

Important – Segregation Required

Formic acid is a corrosive organic acid. Under IMDG regulations, it should be stored and shipped separately from alkalis, oxidizers, and strong mineral acids. It reacts with strong oxidizers and may release flammable gases with some metals. Contact us to plan your shipment.
