Hail Protection Net
Hail Protection Net is made from durable UV-resistant polyethylene and designed to protect crops from hail, strong rain, wind, frost, birds, and larger insects. With high tensile strength, weather resistance, and flexible mesh options, it is widely used in orchards, vineyards, greenhouses, vegetable gardens, and other agricultural applications.
About this product
Product information from the supplier.
Hail Protection Net is mainly manufactured from polyethylene (PE) as the basic raw material. During production, anti-aging agents, UV stabilizers, and other functional additives can be added to improve the material's resistance to outdoor environmental conditions.
The polyethylene material is processed through a wire-drawing and weaving process to form a lightweight but strong mesh structure. The finished Hail Protection Net is suitable for agricultural applications where crops need protection from hail and other weather-related risks.
Hail Protection Net has high tensile strength, allowing it to withstand the tension and impact generated when hail strikes the mesh. Its flexible structure helps absorb and distribute part of the external impact, reducing the direct force transferred to crops.
The material also provides good heat resistance, water resistance, corrosion resistance, and aging resistance. It can maintain relatively stable physical performance under different environmental conditions, making it suitable for long-term outdoor agricultural use.
PE Hail Net is generally non-toxic and odorless when manufactured from suitable agricultural-grade materials. It does not directly pollute crops or the surrounding environment during normal use. After the service period, the mesh can also be collected and handled according to applicable plastic waste management requirements.
Hail Protection and Disaster Reduction
Hail Protection Net creates a physical protective barrier when installed over agricultural frames, orchards, greenhouses, or crop support structures.
When hail falls, the net intercepts the hailstones before they directly reach the plants, helping reduce the impact force and potential damage to fruit, leaves, branches, flowers, and other vulnerable parts of crops.
By creating an artificial protective layer above the crops, Anti-Hail Net can help reduce crop losses caused by sudden hailstorms, particularly in areas where hail events occur frequently.
Light and Environmental Regulation
Hail Protection Net allows a certain amount of natural light to pass through while providing an appropriate level of shading. This helps create a more suitable light environment for crop growth in different agricultural applications.
The mesh structure also provides airflow and can influence the microclimate around crops. Under suitable installation and weather conditions, it may help reduce excessive moisture accumulation within the crop canopy and lower the risk of fruit deterioration caused by unfavorable environmental conditions.
Protection Against Other Weather Hazards
In addition to hail protection, Hail Net can provide a certain level of protection against other outdoor weather conditions.
When properly installed, the mesh can help reduce the direct impact of heavy rain and strong wind on crops. It can reduce the force of rain striking plants and provide an additional physical barrier against wind-driven weather.
In colder seasons, certain mesh configurations may also provide a degree of frost protection by creating a physical layer above the crops. The actual protective effect depends on the mesh structure, installation method, local climate, and crop conditions.
Pest and Disease Management
Hail Protection Net can also be used as a physical crop protection method for pest management and agricultural isolation.
It can be applied to vegetables, rapeseed, and other seed-production crops to help reduce unwanted pollen transfer and maintain isolation during seed production.
The net can also be used for crops such as potatoes and flowers after tissue culture and virus-free propagation, as well as in the production of pollution-free vegetables. In tobacco seedling cultivation, it can provide a physical barrier that helps reduce insect entry and certain external disease transmission risks.
Mesh Shapes
Hail Protection Net is available in different mesh configurations according to crop type, installation structure, and protection requirements. Common mesh shapes include diamond, crescent, and double-cross mesh.
Diamond Hail Net generally has a mesh opening of approximately 5 mm. It is commonly suitable for larger fruit crops grown in orchards with relatively wide row spacing.
Crescent Hail Net generally has mesh openings of approximately 3–4 mm and is suitable for organized orchard structures and agricultural frames. Special customized crescent mesh can be manufactured with openings as small as approximately 2 mm, providing additional protection against frost, hail, larger insects, and birds.
Double-Cross Hail Net generally has mesh openings ranging from 2–4 mm. It is suitable for smaller agricultural structures, orchards, vegetable gardens, and other crop protection areas where a relatively fine mesh is required.
Width
Hail Protection Net is available in a range of standard widths, generally from approximately 0.5 m to 12 m.
Different widths can be selected according to the size of the orchard, greenhouse, crop support frame, or installation structure. Customized widths can also be manufactured according to customer requirements to reduce the need for excessive cutting and joining during installation.

Installation Time
For agricultural areas in northern regions, Hail Protection Net is generally recommended to be installed around March, before the arrival of the rainy season and the main hail season. The actual installation time should be adjusted according to the local climate, crop growth stage, regional hail season, and agricultural management schedule. Installing the net before severe weather arrives helps ensure that the crops are already protected when hailstorms occur.
Installation Method
Taking a grape orchard as an example, the first step is to select suitable support posts. Common options include wooden poles, concrete posts, and stone posts. The supporting posts and frame should have sufficient structural strength to carry the weight of the net system and withstand the additional load caused by hail accumulation and weather conditions.Steel wire or iron wire can then be used to construct the supporting frame. The Hail Protection Net is stretched and laid evenly above the grape trellis, generally maintaining a distance of approximately 50 cm from the top of the grape plants. When two pieces of mesh are connected, the overlapping or joining sections can be secured with nylon rope through tying or stitching. The corners and edges should also be properly fixed to prevent the net from moving during strong wind.During installation, the net should be pulled sufficiently tight to maintain a stable and relatively flat protective surface above the crops. Proper tension and secure fixing are important for maintaining the overall performance of the Hail Protection Net during hailstorms and other severe weather conditions.
Hail Protection Net is widely used to protect a variety of agricultural crops, including vegetables, fruits, tea plants, cotton, tobacco, and other crops.
It is particularly suitable for orchards, vineyards, vegetable gardens, agricultural planting areas, and crop support structures located in regions that are frequently affected by hail and other severe weather.
The product is widely used in high-altitude areas, mountainous regions, and other locations where agricultural production is exposed to a higher risk of natural disasters. By providing a physical protective barrier above crops, Hail Net can become an important part of an integrated agricultural protection system.
