1.MECHANISM OF ACTION
Salmon Calcitonin exerts its therapeutic effects by specifically binding to calcitonin receptors on osteoclasts, strongly inhibiting their activity and reducing bone resorption. It increases renal excretion of calcium, phosphorus, and sodium, thereby lowering serum calcium levels. Additionally, it acts on the central nervous system to provide analgesic effects, particularly relieving bone pain associated with osteoporosis and Paget's disease. Its mechanism ensures rapid onset and sustained regulation of bone metabolism.
2.PRODUCT INDICATIONS
This product is primarily indicated for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis in women who cannot tolerate or are contraindicated for estrogen therapy. It is also used for Paget's disease of bone (osteitis deformans), especially in cases where other treatments are ineffective. Furthermore, it is applied in the management of hypercalcemia and hypercalcemic crisis secondary to malignancies, as well as for acute bone loss prevention due to sudden immobilization and neuropathic osteoarthropathy (Sudeck's disease).
3.CLINICAL EFFICACY OF PRODUCT
Clinical studies, such as the PROOF study, have demonstrated that intranasal Salmon Calcitonin (200 IU/day) can significantly reduce the risk of new vertebral fractures by approximately 33% in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. It effectively increases lumbar spine bone mineral density (BMD) by 1–1.5% and provides rapid relief from bone pain. In Paget's disease, it significantly reduces bone turnover markers (alkaline phosphatase and urinary hydroxyproline). The nasal spray formulation offers comparable efficacy to injections with improved convenience and tolerability.
