Biological Activity
[Tyr¹¹] Somatostatin is an analog of native somatostatin, modified to facilitate radiolabeling (e.g., with ¹²⁵I) while retaining affinity for somatostatin receptors (SSTR1-5). It is used primarily as a radioligand in receptor binding assays, autoradiography, and biochemical studies of SSTR-mediated signaling.

1.MECHANISM OF ACTION

The peptide functions as a somatostatin receptor agonist, binding to SSTR1-5 with affinity comparable to native somatostatin-14. Upon receptor engagement, it activates Gi/o proteins to inhibit adenylyl cyclase, reduce intracellular cAMP levels, and suppress calcium influx, leading to inhibition of hormone secretion and modulation of downstream signaling pathways including MAPK and PI3K/Akt. The Tyr¹¹ modification does not significantly alter receptor binding but provides an optimal site for iodination.

2.PRODUCT INDICATIONS

[Tyr¹¹] Somatostatin is indicated for research use in somatostatin receptor studies, including radioligand binding assays (competition, saturation), autoradiography of tissue sections, SSTR expression profiling, and development of receptor-targeted imaging probes. It is suitable for academic, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology research focused on neuroendocrine tumors, pituitary disorders, and SSTR-mediated signaling pathways.

3.CLINICAL EFFICACY OF PRODUCT

As a research-grade radiolabeling precursor, [Tyr¹¹] Somatostatin is not intended for clinical use and has no established human efficacy data. Its utility lies in enabling the preparation of radiolabeled tracers (e.g., ¹²⁵I-[Tyr¹¹] Somatostatin) that have been used in preclinical studies to characterize SSTR distribution, validate receptor-targeted imaging agents, and support drug discovery efforts for somatostatin-based therapeutics.
