Galanin, human CAS NO.119418-04-1

Galanin, human (CAS: 119418-04-1) is a 30-amino acid neuropeptide that functions as a neuromodulator and neurotransmitter in the central and peripheral nervous systems. This peptide is synthesized as a precursor (preprogalanin) and processed to the mature form, which exhibits high affinity for galanin receptors (GalR1, GalR2, GalR3). It is involved in various physiological processes including appetite regulation, no…

1.MECHANISM OF ACTION

Galanin exerts its biological effects primarily through G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) activation. The peptide binds to three known galanin receptor subtypes (GalR1, GalR2, GalR3) with nanomolar affinity. GalR1 and GalR3 couple to Gi/o proteins, leading to inhibition of adenylate cyclase, reduction of cAMP levels, and inhibition of voltage-gated calcium channels. GalR2 primarily couples to Gq/11 proteins, activating phospholipase C (PLC), increasing intracellular calcium, and stimulating protein kinase C (PKC).

2.PRODUCT INDICATIONS

Neuroscience Research: Studying galaninergic signaling in learning, memory, and cognitive function
Receptor Binding Assays: Radioligand binding studies and receptor autoradiography for GalR1, GalR2, GalR3
Appetite Regulation Studies: Investigating galanin's role in feeding behavior and energy homeostasis
Pain and Nociception Research: Evaluating galanin's modulatory effects on pain pathways
Neuroendocrine Studies: Assessing galanin's effects on hormone secretion (prolactin, growth hormone)
Cell Signaling Studies: Investigating intracellular signaling pathways activated by galanin receptors
Drug Discovery: Screening compounds targeting galanin receptors for therapeutic development

3.CLINICAL EFFICACY OF PRODUCT

Animal studies demonstrate that galanin administration stimulates feeding behavior and modulates pain sensitivity in various pain models
Human genetic studies suggest associations between galanin gene polymorphisms and conditions like Alzheimer's disease, depression, and eating disorders
Early-phase clinical trials with galanin receptor ligands (agonists/antagonists) have been conducted for conditions including epilepsy, depression, and obesity, but results are preliminary
A small clinical study in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy showed altered galanin levels in cerebrospinal fluid, suggesting potential biomarker utility
No approved therapeutics based on galanin or its analogs are currently available; most clinical research remains in exploratory phases
